1940 – 44  1st Batallion  Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 2nd Lieutenant, Lieutenant, Captain. ‘Put on ships, taken off ships, trained for the German Invasion of UK in Carnoustie, trained to invade on the Isle of Wight, sent on intelligence course in Dumbarton, before rejoining regiment July 1943 for Operation Husky, the Invasion of Sicily. Injured, shipped home, bones reset, meets Emmeline in Peaslake in August.
November 1943 Fiancée Emmeline killed in bombing.
April 1944 – Recruited to Military Intelligence and seconded to the Economic Warfare Unit
5 September 1944 Spain.
11 September 1945 Washington DC
November 1945 Becomes engaged to Katherine Ward from the US State Department
December 1945 Katherine is killed in a car crash
January 1946 Joins  Colonial Intelligence – where is works until May 1947
December 1946 Seconded from Colonial Intelligence to take charge of Operation Sea-Snake
